Family Updates

  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

    As we progress into February, we want to share valuable information and opportunities available within the Glendale Union High School District (GUHSD). 

    IT IS NEVER TOO LATE FOR YOUR TEEN’S ACADEMIC SUCCESS
    If your teen is facing academic challenges, or simply seeking additional support, GUHSD is committed to providing a variety of support avenues to help improve their grades and reinforce learning. We understand that every student has unique needs, and we strive to offer tailored support to meet these needs.

    1. Teacher Assistance: Our dedicated teachers offer support before and after school and during EOP/Late Start Wednesdays. They can assist with content-specific instruction, test preparation, and assignment guidance. Please reach out to your child’s teacher for further details.

    2. Learning Centers: Every GUHSD school hosts a Learning Center, providing homework assistance and tutoring for all students. These centers are well-equipped to support various academic needs. For more information, contact the Title I Coordinator or Counselor at your school.

    3. Extended Media Center Hours: Our media centers continue offering extended hours, offering a conducive environment for students to get academic support, in a safe location. For specific days and times, please contact your school’s front office.

    Stay informed and engaged in your teen’s academic journey with ease by utilizing our ParentVUE program. This invaluable tool provides real-time updates on your teen’s grades, attendance, assignments, and the ability to communicate directly with teachers, all through a secure and convenient portal.     PARENT UNIVERSITY AT GUHSD
    We are happy to introduce the Parent University program, offering sessions on crucial topics like the dangers of Fentanyl and vaping, and advice on navigating social media and cyber safety.

    Session Details:
    Regardless of what campus your teen attends, you are welcome at any of these events:
    February 22nd, 5-7 pm: Apollo High School, 8045 N. 47th Ave., Glendale

    • February 27th, 5-7 pm: Washington High School, 2217 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix
    • March 5th, 5-7 pm: Thunderbird High School, 1750 W. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix

    Keynote Speakers:

    • Emily Steele (FBI) on social media and cyber safety
    • Brandi Jordan (Rise Up! Glendale) discussing Fentanyl and vaping

    Participating Organizations:

    Organizations like Rise Up! Glendale Coalition, Molina Healthcare, notMYkid, and others will be present, offering resources and support.

    Special Offers:

    • Complimentary pasta dinner for attendees

    PATHWAYS TO AMERICA’S TOP COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
    The Glendale Union High School District is pleased to announce the success of the eighth annual Pathways to America’s Top Colleges and Universities Night. Thank you to the parents/guardians, students, teachers, and administrators who attended this event.

    This signature event provides students with invaluable information about the college admission process, financial aid, and scholarship options. Over 400 attendees had the opportunity to discover the nation's most prestigious colleges and universities, making the event a comprehensive resource for educational aspirations.

    • Presidents’ Day: No school on Monday, February 19, 2024

  • Dear GUHSD Parents and Guardians,

    With Winter Break just around the corner, we’re excited to welcome a new year and new semester. Here are some essential updates and reminders to help you stay informed and prepared.

    WINTER BREAK SCHEDULE
    Please note that our schools will be closed for Winter Break from December 25th to January 5th. Classes for students will resume on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

    MONITORING SECOND SEMESTER ACADEMIC PROGRESS
    If you haven’t had the opportunity to check your teen’s grades during the first semester, now is an ideal time to set up a ParentVUE account. This online portal provides you with secure access to your teen’s academic information, including assignments, grades, attendance, class schedules, and more. You can easily set up an account by visiting the GRADEBOOK tab on your school’s website. 

    ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT
    As the second semester commences, we offer extra academic support for students needing assistance with coursework or aiming to improve grades. Support is available before or after school from teachers, and our school media centers also provide resources for additional help. Please contact your teen’s counselor or the school office for specific details.

    GUHSD TEACHER CAREER FAIR
    As we gear up for the 2024-2025 school year, we’re hosting a Teacher Career Fair on January 27, 2024, at Greenway High School (3930 W Greenway Rd, Phoenix), from 8 am to 2 pm. Interested educators can call 623-435-6017 to schedule an interview. Join us for a chance to become part of our renowned district, which offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive and collaborative work environment. Feel free to share this information with other educators who might be interested.
