Glendale Union High School District

June 2025 – Mr. Matt Belden serves as the Superintendent of the Glendale Union High School District. He has dedicated his entire 25-year career to GUHSD, serving in a variety of roles including teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, Administrator for School Safety and Academic Support, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Athletics. In each of these positions, he has contributed to school operations, student success, and district-wide efforts focused on continuous improvement.

Mr. Belden brings extensive leadership experience in operations, academics, and student programs. He has managed millions of dollars in district bond projects to ensure safe and modernized facilities across all campuses. He has supported the growth of comprehensive athletic programs for both boys and girls and collaborated closely with the Curriculum and Instruction Department to lead school improvement efforts and manage Title Funds. His well-rounded background in instructional support, facilities planning, and student services has equipped him to lead the district with insight, balance, and a strategic approach. In addition to his work within GUHSD, Mr. Belden has served at the state level as President of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Board.

A lifelong West Valley resident and proud graduate of Glendale High School, Mr. Belden earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree from Ottawa University. He and his wife, Christi, are both alumni of GUHSD and remain deeply connected to the community.

Now leading the very district that shaped his own educational journey, Mr. Belden brings a strong sense of purpose and dedication to his role. He remains committed to academic excellence, operational effectiveness, and meaningful community engagement. As superintendent, he continues to build on GUHSD’s strong foundation by advancing dual enrollment opportunities, expanding work-based learning, and strengthening community partnerships. His leadership ensures that Glendale Union High School District remains a top-performing district and the preferred choice for students, families, and staff.
