What is a Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Override?
A Maintenance and Operations (M&O) override is a voter-approved funding measure that allows a school district to receive additional local funding above the state-set budget limit. This funding supports the day-to-day operation of schools and helps maintain programs and services that the state may not fully fund.
M&O override funds are typically used for teacher and staff salaries, classroom programs, student services, and general operational needs that support learning.
Overrides are approved by voters for a period of seven years, with funding gradually phasing down in the final years if not renewed.
