BOND INFORMATION 2024

With voter approval, public school districts may issue bonds (purchased by investors) to fund projects with a useful life longer than five years. Examples include building new schools, building improvements (HVAC, roof, and lighting), technology, school buses, or equipment. Bonds are repaid over a set period of time.

May 15, 2024-

During the May 15 meeting, the GUHSD Governing Board unanimously approved the recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee to order and call a special bond election on November 5, 2024, for $195,000,000. The critical needs bond would be used to fund the following:

  • School Safety and Security
  • Building Replacement
  • General Building Improvements
  • Mechanical – Electrical – Plumbing
  • Possible Land Aquisition
  • Technology Infrastructure
  • Technology Devices
  • Performing Arts Safety Equipment
  • Performing Arts Technology
  • Performing Arts Lighting and Sound
  • Field and Court Safety
  • Locker Room Renovation and Safety
  • Parking Lot Resurface
  • Student Transportation Vehicles

April 4, 2024-

As part of the Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee process, we are seeking input from our community. The input gathered will be used to make a recommendation to the Board on whether there is a need for a bond election on November 5, 2024.

April 1, 2024- 
The Glendale Union High School District is considering a bond initiative for the upcoming November ballot. A Citizens' Committee has been set up by the Governing Board to study the need for a bond, survey the community, and make a recommendation to the Board on whether there is a need for a bond election on November 5, 2024.

 

We are organizing public presentations to share information and collect feedback from the community. These presentations will bring together the communities of three schools at a single location. Although we recommend attending the presentation designated for your school, you are welcome to attend any presentation that fits your schedule.

Your participation is valuable in shaping the decisions that affect our students and community.

 

April 9                         Sunnyslope, Thunderbird, and Washington High Schools

April 10                       Apollo, Glendale, and Independence High Schools
Meeting location:      Apollo High School, 8045 N 47th Ave, Glendale - Big Hawk Room

April 11                       Cortez, Greenway, and Moon Valley High Schools
Meeting location:      Cortez High School, 8828 N 31st Ave, Phoenix - Auditorium

WHAT ARE SCHOOL DISTRICT BONDS?

With voter approval, public school districts may issue bonds (which are purchased by investors) to fund projects that have a useful life longer than five years. Bonds provide necessary funding for the district to make building improvements and large purchases. Examples include building new schools, building improvements (HVAC, roof, and lighting), technology upgrades, school safety upgrades, and school buses and/or equipment. Bonds are repaid over a set period of time.
Funds from a bond cannot be used for employee compensation.

 

March 6, 2024-
The GUHSD Governing Board voted on and unanimously approved that the Superintendent form a Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee. This committee will consist of representatives from all district high school communities. The purpose of the Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee is to study the need for a bond, survey the community, and make a recommendation to the Board on whether there is a need for a bond election on November 5, 2024.
