Mr. Brian Capistran has dedicated himself to improving the GUHSD community, leaving an indelible mark on the Glendale Union High School District. With an impressive tenure spanning 29 years, Mr. Capistran’s professional preparation and extensive experience as a teacher and leader have been instrumental in driving the success of GUHSD. His journey began at Sunnyslope High School, where he started as a teacher and later ascended to the role of principal at Apollo High School. 

Superintendent Capistran’s commitment to serving the district is evident through his multifaceted contributions. He has held pivotal positions within GUHSD, including assistant principal, school safety administrator, assistant superintendent and associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction. In 2015, he assumed the role of Superintendent, where he continues to lead the Glendale Union High School District with unwavering dedication and passion.

Beyond his duties within the district, Superintendent Capistran has actively sought opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the wider community. He has served on local and state-level committees, commissions, and boards, tirelessly working to enhance education in both the cities of Phoenix and Glendale, as well as the entire state of Arizona.

Superintendent Capistran’s commitment to public education extends to his involvement in esteemed organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, the Patsy Reeve Foundation, and the Arizona Business and Education Coalition. Moreover, he has been a valued member of the Arizona School Administrators, where he has served on the Legislative Review Committee, was President of the Superintendents Division, and will be serving as President of the Arizona School Administrators over this next year. His dedication and expertise have been recognized nationally as well, as he currently serves a three-year term on the board of directors for AASA/The School Superintendents Association.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Superintendent Capistran has received numerous accolades. Most recently, he was honored with the ASA All Arizona Superintendent award for a large school district, further establishing his exceptional standing in the realm of educational leadership.
