NATIONAL MERIT 2027 SEMIFINALISTS

GUHSD Seniors Earn National Merit Semifinalist Recognition
The Glendale Union High School District Governing Board is pleased to recognize Gabriel Burroughs, Kaytlin Garrow, and Ryan Sutton, seniors at Sunnyslope High School, and Peter LeStourgeon, a senior at Thunderbird High School, as Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit® Scholarship Program.
More than 16,000 high school seniors nationwide have earned the distinction of National Merit Semifinalist this year, including these four GUHSD students. The honor recognizes students who achieved some of the highest scores among program participants on the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT.
With this achievement, Gabriel, Kaytlin, Ryan, and Peter will continue to the next stage of the National Merit Scholarship competition. Approximately 6,700 scholarships totaling nearly $24 million are expected to be awarded in spring 2027. About 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to advance to Finalist standing, with scholarship recipients selected from the Finalist group based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Being named a National Merit Semifinalist reflects the students’ dedication to their academic pursuits and the high level of achievement they have demonstrated throughout their high school careers. Their accomplishments also exemplify the Glendale Union High School District’s mission to empower all students for the choices and challenges of the twenty-first century as they prepare for their futures.
GUHSD congratulates Gabriel Burroughs, Kaytlin Garrow, Ryan Sutton, and Peter LeStourgeon on this outstanding achievement and celebrates their continued pursuit of excellence as they prepare for college, career, and life.
