Sunnyslope High School Achievement Above All Honorees
On November 6, Sunnyslope High School proudly celebrated the exceptional contributions of its community through the Achievement Above All awards. This prestigious recognition is the highest honor bestowed by the Governing Board, recognizing outstanding achievements in teaching, support, student excellence, student groups, and volunteerism. Below, we honor the remarkable individuals and groups who make Sunnyslope shine.
Teacher Recipient: Mr. Michael Sidebottom
Mr. Michael Sidebottom, a proud alumnus of Thunderbird High School, has brought unparalleled energy and dedication to Sunnyslope High School since he arrived in 2020. With a background in special education and a Master's in Educational Leadership, Mr. Sidebottom has served as a catalyst for positivity and excellence as the Special Education Department Chair and Unified Sports coach.
His colleagues and students alike commend his ability to inspire, challenge, and support, fostering a dynamic learning environment. Known for his relentless enthusiasm and deep commitment to student success, Mr. Sidebottom is a beacon of positivity, embodying the spirit of Sunnyslope High School.
Student Recipient: Manny Jacobs
Manny Jacobs represents the pinnacle of academic and athletic achievement at Sunnyslope. Ranking among the top in a graduating class of nearly 600, Manny has excelled in rigorous academic pursuits, earning multiple perfect AP scores and a perfect ACT score. His leadership extends beyond the classroom, where he captains the varsity cross-country team, leading them to state-level success.
Manny's dedication, humility, and commitment to excellence have made him a role model among his peers. His teachers and coaches highlight his extraordinary balance of intellect, athleticism, and character, making him a true ambassador for Sunnyslope High School.
Student Group: DECA
Under the guidance of sponsor Jill Martinez, Sunnyslope’s DECA chapter has made significant strides in preparing future leaders in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. This vibrant group is a cornerstone of campus life, from rebranding and managing the student store, Victor’s Place, to hosting the successful Merry Marketplace holiday bazaar.
DECA members consistently achieve state and national accolades, exemplifying innovation, leadership, and dedication. Their ongoing contributions enrich the Sunnyslope community, preparing them for impactful careers.
Support Staff Recipient: Ms. Shelby Ferrari
Ms. Shelby Ferrari’s journey at Sunnyslope began as a receptionist. She quickly transitioned to the bookstore manager role, where she transformed the space into a hub of organization and positivity. Her colleagues admire her infectious energy, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond, including entertaining at district celebrations and supporting campus-wide initiatives.
Shelby’s warm demeanor and innovative approach make her an invaluable asset to the school. Her contributions have significantly enhanced the Sunnyslope experience for both staff and students.
Volunteer Recipients: Wayne and Betsy Pulver
Wayne and Betsy Pulver have supported Sunnyslope High School for nearly two decades. Their dedication spans from attending countless sporting events to providing essential support for the Sports Medicine program. The Pulvers have also been instrumental in raising funds, maintaining facilities, and securing necessary equipment for student-athletes.
Their generosity and tireless commitment to the Sunnyslope community exemplify true volunteerism, leaving a lasting impact on students and staff alike.
