GUHSD ACHIEVES "A" DISTRICT RATING
The Arizona Department of Education has released its annual letter grades, and GUHSD has earned an “A” District rating. Additionally, each of the districts’ nine comprehensive high schools—Apollo, Cortez, Glendale, Greenway, Independence, Moon Valley, Sunnyslope, Thunderbird, and Washington—have achieved an "A" grade.
The Arizona Department of Education’s A-F letter grading system evaluates schools on multiple key performance indicators. These include:
- Statewide assessment results: Measures student performance on state assessments.
- English learner assessment results: Tracks progress and performance of English language learners.
- Attendance: Assesses how frequently students attend school.
- Special education metrics: Evaluate the performance of students with special needs.
- Graduation rates: Tracks the percentage of students graduating within four years.
- Progress towards graduation: Measures students' progress in meeting graduation requirements.
- College and career readiness: Assesses preparedness for post-secondary success.
- Year-to-year student growth: Evaluates annual academic improvements.
- English language proficiency: Measures student proficiency in English language arts.
- Math and science proficiency: Assesses student performance in math and science.
The State Board of Education sets specific "cut scores" that determine the points required for each letter grade, with “A” representing excellent performance, significantly exceeding the state average.
