How does the school operate?
Students learn at their own pace through computer-based instruction
in academic courses. Students have work experience opportunities
and participate in community service activities as part of
the program.
Our program also offers an open entry, open exit format,
allowing students to begin and finish as needed. Many students
also benefit from career development activities including
job shadows, guest speakers, workplace and college tours.
Community referrals and supportive counseling are also provided
by a Career Resource Coordinator.
Students can earn a high school diploma (not a GED).
Academy Goals:
- To help more young people graduate
- To prepare young people to be more successful in the
world of work
Community Partnerships
Communities in Schools of Arizona (CISA) was established as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization in 1994, with a mission to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, to stay in school, and to prepare for life.
Through their programs, they focus on the "Five Basics":
- A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
- A healthy start and a healthy future
- A safe place to learn and grow
- A marketable skill to use upon graduation
- A chance to give back to the community and peers
The goal of CISA is to help disadvantaged students at all grade levels learn, stay in school and successfully prepare for life.
Simon Youth Foundation is also a community business partner for the academy.

June 2006 - The GUHSD Governing Board accepts a donation
in the amount of $2,000 to the
Metrocenter Academy from Simon Youth Foundation to be used
