Learning System Description

Twenty-first century curriculum focuses on:

  • knowledge
  • skills and abilities, and
  • how both are used in the real world

The Glendale Union Plan for Excellence reflects our belief that

  • high expectations and high standards of both staff and students promote quality education;
  • a quality education provides the academic skills, thinking skills and personal qualities necessary for life in a changing society;
  • safe, orderly schools encourage students to develop personal responsibility that is necessary in order to learn;
  • education is a shared responsibility - of the student, the school, the home and the community

Our Plan for Excellence demands that we

  • constantly measure our progress and set new targets for improvement
  • ensure that the district employs and keeps quality personnel
  • make effective use of district resources - human, physical and financial
  • share community, business, government and education resources.

High Expectations

The Glendale Union High School District adheres to the philosophy that all students can learn. We maintain quality and equity in teaching and learning. While it make take some students longer to reach their goals, we set high standards and expectations for achievement (quality) and require these high standards to be met by all students (equity).

Schools Prepared for Emergencies

Parents and students in the Glendale Union High School District should be aware that your high schools are continually preparing for emergencies. All of our schools have safety and security plans. For several years, our school and district administrators have been working closely with local law enforcement, emergency management and public health officials to coordinate emergency response procedures for natural disasters and man-made threats.

Although each of our high schools has its own localized plan, all of them must include specific common features as required by district administration and local, state and federal agencies. School staff is trained annually on emergency management procedures.

Each school reviews its individualized plan annually and creates updates as needed. Copies of the most current school plans are kept on file at the district administrative center.

If you have general questions about your child or your school's safety and support responses, please contact your principal.

In the event of an emergency, the contact person at the district administrative center is the School Safety Administrator (623-435-6024). At the schools, the contact person is the Assistant Principal for Discipline and Attendance. You can reach the Assistant Principal for Discipline and Attendance by calling the school's main number:
